Attempt to Fly

Everything in this comedic-dramatic story begins with the appearance of a wandering balloon, detached from the fronts of World War II, which suddenly appears above Avramovi Mahali. This event leads to the formation of four groups of villagers who begin chasing the balloon. The characters of the pursuers are more than colorful: Teacher Kiro, Haji Avram, Petleto, Ilyiko, Matey Nishcheto, Avram Sovalkata, Igoto, Pavel, Petar, Avramovitsa, Avramcheto, Babina Dushitsa. For his play, Radichkov writes: "Also participating in the events are: a child's kite, a flea, a tamed crow named Momo, angels who carry the soul of a deceased person from Avramovi Mahali, a group from Wallachia with Gutsul flutes, a group of Serbs with Albanian muskets, a group of Greeks performing a sad melody on string instruments, a group of Turks with a hodja, with zouras and whistles, separately the dust they raise. These four groups must symbolize the Balkans, which do not remain indifferent to the appearance of the wandering balloon. The highest among the Balkans is our group of pursuers, since we are in the very center of the peninsula. The Balkans are habitats of eagles, habitats of flying ideas, there the human spirit soars high in the clouds and each of the heroes has flown at least once in a dream. This chronicle has the modest task of showing how the common people create myths from real events. All myths are created by the common people, a mixture of imagination and ignorance, and a constant dream for man to detach himself from the miserable and despised earthly life. As it is illuminated and warmed through the human soul, the despised and miserable life begins to sound almost balladically and shines with purely human light".
