About the show

In the play "Notes on the Bulgarian Uprisings," the heroes descend from stone monuments and sit beside us as living contemporaries. In a world where heroism coexists with hesitation, and freedom is won at the cost of devastation, Botev, Rayna Knyaginya, and ordinary Bulgarians must answer one question: "How much does it cost to be alive but a slave? And how much – to die, but free?" "Notes on the Bulgarian Uprisings" is the bible of the Bulgarian character. It shows in an admirable way the abandonment of slavery and the wandering through freedom. The play reveals the moral abyss to which the desire to always be on the right side of history leads. It shows the moral horizon one can reach by rising against logic. If we choose utility – we die under its debris. If we allow ourselves to make a mistake – we live under the immortal arch of freedom. The play "Notes on the Bulgarian Uprisings" is not only about memory of the past, but also about the choice facing the future. The play is dedicated to the 150th anniversary of the April Uprising.
