About the show

The play "THE LOVERS" is comprehensive and highly expressive because it chooses to employ the expressive means of several arts: dance, music, and word. It is conceived as a "communication" between love letters exchanged in different times and eras by famous writers, artists, and musicians. Letters filled with painful passion, romantic adoration, spiritual beauty and vulnerability, sensuality, and... laughter. The words of the letters are so shaking that they provoke the dance of bodies, the radiance of baroque music and singing, even the sound of the original languages in which they were written: Italian, French, German, and English. Because how else can we express the vastness of love if not with the multiplicity of all arts and the possibilities they give us. In the entire indescribably colorful and multi-genre picture of this great feeling – love – everything matters. Especially when named with the words of Victor Hugo, Goethe, George Sand, Frida Kahlo, James Joyce, Robert Burns, Anaïs Nin, Henry Miller... Therefore, the text of the letters is spoken, sung, and danced by two pairs of lovers who summarize the timeless meaning of epistolary love in a dynamically changing constellation. The idea, direction, and choreography of the play "The Lovers" are by Mila Iskrenova. The musical concept is by Yosef Gerdzhikov. The scenography and costumes are by Elitsa Georgieva. Music on the spinet – Elitsa Stefanova. Participating actors: Bilyana Petrinska, Elena Ivanova, Zhaklin Daskalova, Georgi Zlatarev, and Kaloyan Trifonov.
