A Walk with Gogol

Nikolai Gogol (1809 – 1852) is an author in whom sorrow and tragedy are overcome through sparkling laughter. The paradoxes of life, refracted through a whimsical fantasy, are both comic and mystical in his work. The human and the supernatural, people and spirits intertwine in Gogol's dance – the overcoats are alive, the portraits are living, and noses stroll along the boulevards. "The essence of humanity is irrationally drawn out from the chaos of imaginary realities that embody Gogol's world." (Vl. Nabokov) The play offers a new and original perspective on Gogol's prose and expands the theatrical perception of the author, as his absurd humor is revealed by the actors in an engaging manner with its improvisational power. The play "A Walk with Gogol" is part of the "Theater+" Program. Theater+ is a platform for long-term and collaborative creative work for exchanging ideas and presenting new dramatic and theatrical trends in contemporary theater.
