The Package

Everyone from Europe is ready to wash dishes in America, but to be free, you want from America to go to Europe to wash dishes, to be free. I don't understand you!" This line from the play "The Package" clearly positions the theme of the false American Dream. A dream wrapped in cellophane, imposed consistently and uncritically, generation after generation. A sugary idea of material well-being, turned into an emblem of a good life. Happiness is achievable, as long as it is paid for. You are on social assistance, you eat free hamburgers. You wash dishes, you eat even freer hamburgers. You drive a truck, you eat extremely free hamburgers. Freedom in America is guaranteed! And, of course, whoever lives in America is a big deal! So big that there is no need to know what is happening outside the promised continent. There is no need to know that there are other countries, let alone where they are located. There is no need to think. And if, nevertheless, an American citizen is forced to reason, then great confusion ensues. Because the eater has gotten used to not thinking, he is used to surviving. See the endlessly funny and absurd confusions in a classic American family faced with an unusual choice. So unusual that they even have to find out where the country of Bulgaria is located and how many centuries old it is. Boil Banov
