About the show
In "The Lament of an Angel," a small man desperately raises big questions. Desperately, because he could not answer them, could not cope with life, and even says that he did not live it. Therefore, by his own will, he renounces his will. The action takes place in Bulgaria, and the reasons for the failures are as much personal as they are Bulgarian as a whole. The small man discusses them as such. And traditionally for our region, it does not seem that there is any way things can be fixed. It is possible that viewers will find it difficult to identify with the hero because, as we said, we are talking about a small man, and there are not many small people left – we are all big business. Most likely, a quick connection can be made with the reproaches he sometimes makes. To reproach is contagious. But the true value of this text, at least according to the production team of the play, does not arise from the pathos of the unhappy statements shared by the big people, but shines in the recognized helplessness of the small man, living not here or there, but on Earth. Because when you realize how small you are under the vast starry sky, then a greater meaning can be found, different from the appearances that make you enter unnecessary struggles without choosing your means. Then the devastating greed and cruelty over which the angel weeps can disappear. To be honest with the audience, we deliberately renounce the game of reincarnation and simply tell about the desperate small man to whom it is difficult for us to reach. Let this theatrical move be read as a gesture of humility.
