About the show

The holder of the European theatre award "Premio" for 2017 – the world-renowned Slovenian director Jernej Lorenci – presents his own production "Orpheus" on the stage of the Ivan Vazov National Theatre. At the heart of the production lies the ancient myth of Orpheus and Eurydice, naturally recreated and reimagined through the sensitivity and reflection of the modern human being facing several existential problems: war as a permanent state of humanity, mobilizing but also blurring its creative energy; forgetfulness and (self-)deceptions to which we voluntarily succumb, fleeing from the truth; the loneliness of the creator as his sought-after and defended privilege; the power of love in its metaphysical and mystical dimensions. Why does Orpheus descend into the underworld? Where exactly does he descend – into hell, among people, to Eurydice, or to his own fears and illusions? Why does he violate the prophecy, turn around and look at Eurydice, knowing beforehand that this gesture condemns him? IKAR Award 2023 for DIRECTING. IKAR Award 2023 for BEST PRODUCTION. IKAR Award 2023 AUDIENCE AWARD for best dramatic production. Award for BEST PRODUCTION from the International Theatre Festival "Skupi" 2023 (ITF SkupiFestival) in Skopje, North Macedonia. Nomination for the IKAR Award 2023 for LEADING MALE ROLE for Dejan Donkov in the role of Orpheus.
