After years of hardship and sacrifice, her family is finally on the threshold of a more peaceful life when her husband Torvald Helmer gets a job as a bank manager. And everything would be perfect if Nora were not tormented by an ill-considered act in the past, committed out of love for her husband. When he falls seriously ill, she forges a signature and borrows a large sum of money from the notary Krogstad to secure the necessary treatment for her husband. Now Krogstad is blackmailing her and threatening to reveal her secret. Nora desperately hopes that Torvald will understand the reasons for her actions and stand by her when the truth comes out. But when he reacts in a completely different way than expected, she sees him in a new light and realizes that she can no longer continue her life with him. "A Doll's House" is one of the most famous and most frequently performed plays by the Norwegian dramatist Henrik Ibsen. At its premiere at the Royal Danish Theatre in Copenhagen in 1879, it caused a stormy scandal. With this play, Ibsen criticizes the patriarchal model of the bourgeois family and upholds the woman's right to choose for herself and to free herself from her subordinate role in marriage. At the center of his attention is Nora's inner growth, linked to her rebellion against social norms that hinder her right to act according to her own will, judgment, and conscience. In her own way, Nora continues to be present today in a number of works that explore power relations between men and women. She is the first heroine in the history of European literature and theater to declare the need for equality between the sexes. STARRING: Ajda Smrekar, Matej Puc, Jernej Gasperin, Mojca Funkl/Nina Rakovec, Jaka Lah/Yuriy Drevensek (guest actor) The guest performance is realized within the exchange between the Ivan Vazov National Theatre and the City Theatre - Ljubljana (MGL), Slovenia
