The English Window

A hotel room. A window that must not be opened. A politician who believes he can control everything – words, people, circumstances, the truth. In "The English Window," Ray Cooney turns a secret meeting into a perfect mechanism of chaos. Every lie breeds a new lie, every rescue leads to a greater catastrophe, and every attempt at order ultimately throws the world out of gear. Behind the apparent lightness of the farce lies a ruthlessly precise gaze at human vanity – at the fear of being exposed, at the desire to appear honorable when everything around you has already fallen apart. The heroes flee from the truth with desperate ingenuity, but it, as always in good comedy, finds its way in through the door. Or through the window. "The English Window" is a comedy about power, double lives, and the fragile facade of propriety – a spectacle in which laughter comes not only from the situation, but from the painful recognition of the human being caught in the trap of their own justifications.
