About

The beginning of puppet art in Targovishte The beginning of puppet-theatrical art in Targovishte is marked by the premiere of an amateur troupe from the Model People's Library "Napredak-1864". With almost no experience, but with great perseverance, a few enthusiasts, under the leadership of Vichka Kerelozova, prepared the play "The Magic Galosh," which premiered on February 15, 1961. At the beginning of the next season, young audiences watched "The Merry Bears," followed by "Little Red Riding Hood," "Rizho and Misho Mustakata," "Zayko Prestruvanko," "The Blue Flower," "The Punished Troublemaker" and many other interesting and entertaining productions for children. The troupe performed in Omurtag, Popovo, Preslav, Shumen, Razgrad, Provadia, Gorna Oryahovitsa, Ruse and other cities across the country. From the end of 1961, leadership was taken over by Stoyan Kerelozov for one season. And from 1964, theatrical activity flourished under the leadership of Dimcho Nikolov. The first puppeteers were Nikola Kandilarov, Ivanka Ivanova, Tonka Nikolova, Veska Belcheva and Stoyan Radev. From 1968, GONS subsidized the theater, which effectively became semi-professional, and most of the puppeteers were on the staff of the library, whose stage and hall were adapted for puppet performances. Effectively, this was the first Municipal Theater in Targovishte with its first director Dimcho Nikolov. The staff included Sofia Ivanova, Stoyanka Nikolova, Dimitrinka Koseva, Petranka Titkova, Todor Titkov, Pavel Vlasakiev, Ruska Borisova, Nadia Ivanova, Nedelcho Dimov. Over the years, many guest artists – directors, musicians and artists – have been invited. This direct contact with distinguished masters of puppet-theatrical art significantly improved the quality of the productions and gave the troupe the confidence to measure up to professional theaters. With success, they conquered the stages with productions such as "Cinderella," "Snow White," "The House on Wheels," "Topchitsa-Hopchitsa". In 1970, at the National Review of Municipal Puppet Theaters, under the patronage of the Committee for Culture, the Targovishte puppets won an award for the play "The House on Wheels" by D. Nikolov. State Puppet Theatre Targovishte becomes professional On October 1, 1975, a long-held dream came true, earned through hard work, talent and perseverance – the Puppet Theater was recognized as a state theater. This was legalized by Resolution No. 49 of February 13, 1975 of the Council of Ministers. Ivo Harizanov was appointed as the first director. Unforgettable encounters with the magical art of puppets began for the little rascals. Many productions achieved indescribable success over the years – "For the Sunny Girl and the Rainy Boy" by P. Vasechek, "Where Are You Going, Little Horse" by R. Moskova, "White Fairy Tale" by V. Petrov, "The Princess and the Pea," "The Six Little Penguins" by B. Aprilov, "Clever Peter" by L. Mecheva, "Papachalcheto Pai" by Y. Todorov, "Conversation Without Word...
