Silistra Drama and Puppet Theatre
Silistra
About
The beginning of theatrical history in Silistra dates back to 1872 with the performance 'Much-Suffering Genevieve', a product of the creative work of the Theatrical Society established shortly before that in Silistra. The year 1942 is also memorable for the Silistra theatre, when it was declared a state and professional theatre. In 2002, with the holding of the impressive Sixth Theatre Salon, the theatre solemnly celebrated 60 years since its declaration as a state and professional cultural institution. Over these 61 years, nearly 550 productions (titles) have been recorded in its repertoire. In 1997, the theatre won a competition according to the requirements of the Ministry of Culture and adopted the status of a repertory theatre with mixed financing – state and municipal. The DKT 'S.Dobroplodni' is the only one in Bulgaria to have conducted an experiment by uniting the Drama and Puppet Theatre through common administrative leadership. In this way, a single theatre with two departments – drama and puppet – was created, with ideas for further joint work between them.
