About

Andrey Kaludov was born on June 19, 1947. He graduated from the Krastyo Sarafov National Academy for Theatre and Film Arts (NATFA) with a major in "Directing" in the class of Professor Filip Filipov. He was assigned to the Blagoevgrad Theater, where he became the initiator for the creation of a chamber stage. In 1973, Apostol Karamitev invited the young director to be his assistant at NATFA, and together they selected his new graduating class. Following Karamitev's sudden death, the class was taken over by Prof. Grisha Ostrovsky. With the graduating class, he went to Varna, where he realized the idea for a Youth Stage. Its activity made a splash with the staging of the first Bulgarian rock opera "Imaginary Report on an American Pop Festival". As the founder of the Literary Theater "Revival," he facilitated the emergence of both established artists and young talents (Edvin Sugarov, Vladimir Levchev, Angel Angelov – Dzhendema, etc.). In the period 1995-1998, he was the director of the "Tear and Laughter" Theater and attracted to its cast the stars of Bulgarian theater Slavka Slavova and Georgi Cherkelov. As the chief director of the Musical Theater, he staged productions, including "Counterfeiters" based on his own libretto, with music by Dimitar Valchev, featuring Vidin Daskalov, Minko Bosev, Nikolay Borisov, Lyudmila Chesmedzhieva, and others. At the VIII National Review of Bulgarian Drama and Theater, he was awarded first prize for directing for the production "The Last Judgment" by Stefan Tsanev, with Georgi Cherkelov in the leading role. In 2019, he became the recipient of the "Golden Mask" of the Varna Theater. In 2018, he wrote a libretto based on the novel by Jorge Amado "The Old Sailors," and based on his poems, composer Stefan Dimitrov created music, realizing the musical "Brazilian Nights". His play "Jackpot," the comedies "Come In Without Knocking," and "A Particle of Love" have been performed in several theaters. He has published the collections "Plays and Dramatizations" and "Plays and Songs," as well as the series for children in verse "The Adventures of Sloncho, Lora and Luka". Abroad, Andrey Kaludov realized the productions "Masters" by Racho Stoyanov in Georgia and "That Thing" by Hristo Boichev in Moscow. His productions are performed in theaters in Varna, Shumen, Sofia, Burgas, Pleven, Blagoevgrad, Kyustendil, Plovdiv, Kardzhali, and Pazardzhik. He is the author of the plays "Eyes – Summer Morning...", "Legend of Sibin – The Preslav Prince," "Drum for Execution," "The Incredible Miss Bon Chance," and "Would You Get Off My Wife...", which was written based on a true incident.
